“The Gospel releases us to live into the Law of Love rather than stringent hard-and-fast rules. When it comes to finances, the Law of Love simply says this: Be Generous. Rich or poor, working or unemployed, with much or little, the people of God have always been defined by their generosity regardless of circumstances, not by the %’s they give to the local church. A generous heart is what God is after, recognizing that each household circumstance is different.
But as with all things spiritual, their are common practices the people of God have adopted for generation upon generation. One common practice is that people give 10% of their income as a tithe. Then, as needs amongst the people
of God come up, they give an offering.
This is not “law.” In fact, some people should give far more than this because the Lord has given them, as the Bible says, the gift of giving because HE has given them their ability to make money. On the other hand, some are in a financially needy position and aren’t able to give to this level.
The Law of Love creates freedom for both.”
